Actually, here's an idea, both pictures would look better without, the other, so just work the guy out of the picture and give him another one that clashes a bit less, consistency at the expense of contrast might work in this case, just an idea tho. Ps. Maybe add a couple of bright blue torches at the gate or something, just to lead the eye.

I think your points about the composition are very fair, simplicity might have helped but in this case my objective really was to start trying more complex composition arrangements, so this is a somewhat flawed attempt on what I'm trying to master.
Gorgeous picture, just one thing that kind of takes me a bit out of it, his legs are a bit too long in relation to his body, and his head should not be over the road there, it makes it seem a bit off, like its two pictures morphed together, nonetheless I cant do anything near as good looking as that so what am I whining on about Especially love the crows and the tree, gets my imagination going, what i like to see in pictures
