The Shrike is one of the most terrifying sci fi characters/creatures you can ever read about. He’s an enigmatic being from the Hyperion Cantos book series by Dan Simmons. He’s basically immune to any known weapon, can travel through time, visit people’s dreams or give them visions… A sort of living god whose purpose is unknown and whose only way of communication is death. The first book and the only one I’ve read until now deals with a group of travelers who are given the task to make a request of the Shrike. As they progress in their journey, each of the pilgrims tells their tale.
